DYB jamboree Saturday, opening day next week

By Michael Butler

The Tallassee Dixie Youth Baseball season is real close. To showcase the league, teams will play a jamboree of games on Saturday in East Tallassee, weather permitting.

There is a good chance of showers during the afternoon hours, still each team in each division is scheduled to play two games a piece. The concession stand will be open for business.

"The concession stand will be fully stocked," Concessions Coordinator Jill Wisener said. "Cheesburgers, chicken sandwiches, hotdogs and array of other ballpark favorites will be available."

Games are slated to start at 12:00 in the 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 age groups. There are six teams in 7-8-year-old coach pitch. Five teams are in 9-10 and four in 11-12.

"I am excited about the upcoming jamboree to be able to see the community come together to officially kick off the 2018 season," Commissioner Abe Rigsby said. "This past Saturday there were some 7/8-year-old scrimmages and you could feel the excitement in the air."

The season is set to open with games on Tuesday, March 20 with action starting at 5:30 p.m. Opening day ceremonies and team introductions will be the following Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Even though the season officially kicks off on March 20, we are having the opening ceremonies on Saturday, March 24 which will give us plenty of time to recognize all of those that are involved in the success of Dixie Youth Baseball," Rigsby added. "The DYB board has worked hard this year to make this the best season yet, and I am looking forward to a great year."
