Baynes to play at AUM

Staff Report

Former Tallassee High School multi-sport athlete Brandon Baynes will be on the baseball diamond next season at AUM. Baynes played at Central Alabama Community College after graduating from THS in 2015.

Baynes hit .270 with 3 homeruns, 43 RBIs and 22 stolen bases. The outfielder was offered a baseball scholarship by the Warhawks in the fall of last year and signed this spring.

He will be following in his father's footsteps becoming AUM's first legacy player. Mark was a catcher at AUM from 1988-'94.

"I am really looking forward to going and watching him play at AUM," Mark said. "I really enjoyed my years there and I hope he does as well. It's a great place to play!"

Brandon is pumped about the opportunity as well.

"I am very excited about playing at AUM," he said. "My dad loved it there."

Brandon got AUM head coach Marty Lovrich's attention with some solid outings at CACC.

"Coach Lovrich came to watch me play twice and both times I had huge games hitting a homer, a triple and a few singles."

AUM is now a Division II program in the Gulf South Conference. This will be their second year during the three-year transition process from NAIA.
