Residents of Tallassee and the surrounding communities are invited to the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany to welcome the new priest in charge, Rev. David Peeples.

Members of the church have planned a meet and greet for Father David, who has been serving since January.  The come and go event is Sunday, May 1, starting at 2 p.m.

Father David is a native of Memphis, Tenn. and graduated from high school at Memphis University School.  He earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, and completed his Master of Divinity at The School of Theology in Sewanee, Tenn.

Father David began his professional life as the business manager for Delta Farms in Memphis, and then took a job as Aerospace Systems Engineer for Rockwell International in Canoga Park, Calif.  He spent six years in Huntsville, Ala. with Sverdrup Technology, MSFS Group, but then followed his path to the priesthood.

He spent a year in Honduras as a missionary, serving as a chaplain, religion teacher, and counselor, before attending seminary.  He finished seminary in 2000, and came to Montgomery as Associate Rector of the historic St. John’s Episcopal Church.  Father David was Rector of Grace Episcopal Church in Pike Road and Priest/Minister of All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Montgomery.

He also served as Chaplain of Holy Cross Episcopal School in Montgomery for 19 years.

In addition to serving at Epiphany Church here in Tallassee, he is a Chaplain for Hospice of Montgomery, providing spiritual care and bereavement services for terminal patients and their families.

“Our church family is very excited and  happy to have the Rev. David Peeples as our priest in charge.  Father David brings a wealth of experience and pastoral care to our church and the Tallassee area,” said Kathy Haynie, senior warden of Epiphany.

The event will be held on the church grounds and the sanctuary will be open for visitors.

The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany is part of the Dicoese of Alabama, which has approximately 92 churches and 30,000 members.  The Right Rev. Glenda Curry is the 12th and current bishop of the diocese.
