A.C.T.S. prepares for holiday giving

By Michael Butler

It may be premature to start talking about the Christmas season, but not at A.C.T.S (Association of Christians in Tallassee for Service). In October, the ministry will begin taking applications for holiday gift packages.

A.C.T.S. held an open house on Aug. 13 offering free clothing and shoes for back to school.

"During October for two weeks, we'll take applications for Christmas for children from 2-12," A.C.T.S. director Barry Adair said. "We try to provide up to four toys for each kid in the household and not only that - each family will receive a box of food."

Those wanting to donate for food boxes may contact Adair. Each box costs $30.

"We can't thank the community enough for providing the things we need, whether it be food, clothes or resources for utility assistance."

Adair said the numbers last year of those served were down slightly.

"It was down. I'd say an average of those served for the holidays is about 100 families."

For more information, call 334-283-6750. A.C.T.S. is open from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 308 Main Street in East Tallassee.
