After school program still has openings

By Michael Butler

School may be underway but it's not too late get your kid in Tallassee's after school program. 21st Century Community Learning Center has openings for students, first through sixth grade.

"This is our seventh year of having this program," Career Tech Coordinator Keith McNaughten said. "We try to provide enrichment activities outside the classroom setting. It also provides a service for the parents, allowing them to have an extended day."

Students get time for homework each day with assistance from teachers involved in the program at Tallasee Elementary School.

"They're exposed to arts, ceramics, taekwondo, dance, and we're also talking about adding some music on Fridays," McNaughten added.

21st Century operates on weekdays from 3:15 - 5:15. Tuition is $25 a week per child. There is a non-refundable registration fee of $20 for one student and $35 for two or more.

"We've been running 60-70 students in past years in the program. This year, our numbers are down."

A bus service is provided for students that reside within five miles of Tallassee Elementary School.

For more information, contact McNaughten by e-mail or call the school office at 334-283-5001.
